Explore Bellingham ZIP Codes

The Bellingham ZIP code directory sorts postal clues without confusing them with city boundaries. Begin with the ZIP printed on the source, then confirm the full address through postal tools and check municipal jurisdiction in an official parcel map. To find residents ZIP code by ZIP code, use a lawful voter extract or another record that exposes a postal field, while keeping owner, taxpayer, voter, and occupant roles separate. Around Bellingham, a familiar city label can describe mail delivery rather than the government that holds the permit, parcel, or court record.

Bellingham ZIP Code Coverage

Official records reviewed for Bellingham use five ZIP codes, but the research did not locate one official USPS table that turns them into exact municipal areas. The table therefore states only what the sources prove. It does not assign full neighborhood polygons or invent post office stations.

ZIP Documented Bellingham use Postal form Research note
98225 Common in city and county records Street and mailing addresses Check parcel jurisdiction
98226 Common in city and county records Street and mailing addresses Check city limits separately
98227 Seen in county or property mail PO Box example Do not treat as a city-limit zone
98228 Appears in reviewed local records Postal label Exact municipal meaning not established
98229 Used by Bayview Cemetery's physical address Street address example One address does not define full coverage

Blaine's 98230 is a useful guardrail. Blaine is in Whatcom County, but that fact does not make its ZIP a Bellingham code. Nearby communities have their own postal labels. A countywide search may still be right when the source says a different mailing city.

Verify a Bellingham ZIP Code

The USPS ZIP Code Lookup is the official place to validate the postal code for a complete street address. Enter the address as it appears on the source, then save the standardized output alongside the original text. USPS validation proves a mail-delivery assignment. It does not prove ownership, occupancy, the age of a building, or the date land entered Bellingham.

Input or output What to record
Street address Number, street name, direction, suffix, and unit exactly as entered
City and state The postal city and Washington label, without turning them into legal jurisdiction
ZIP result Five-digit ZIP and ZIP+4 when supplied
Search date The day the live postal result was checked

USPS was a required capture target, but no successful screenshot appears in the manifest. The ZIP code directory remains source-linked and text-only at that step rather than borrowing an unrelated image.

Bellingham ZIP Fields in Voter Data

The Secretary of State voter database extract includes active voters, current and previous-year voting history, and district or precinct data. The request form asks for first and last name, email, phone, address, city, state, ZIP, file selection, county selection, and an agreement. Files are refreshed near the beginning of the month, and requests can take up to five business days.

Extract field group ZIP directory value Limit
Registration street, unit, city, state, ZIP Groups dated registration addresses Not proof of current occupancy
Mailing address components Shows where election mail is directed May differ from residence
Precinct and county codes Checks election geography Boundaries change; keep date
Registration and last-voted dates Adds time context to a ZIP grouping Does not show party preference

RCW 29A.08.740 restricts use for advertisements, offers, or solicitations involving money, services, or value. RCW 42.56.070(8) also restricts commercial lists. The ZIP code directory should never expose protected addresses or republish the full sensitive file.

Bellingham ZIPs and City Limits

Postal routes, Census ZIP Code Tabulation Areas, Bellingham city limits, Whatcom County, school districts, and neighborhoods answer different questions. They do not share one border. A Bellingham postal label may sit outside municipal jurisdiction, while a parcel's permit history may belong with the county rather than the city. The county Map Portal itself warns that its viewer is not legal boundary evidence.

CityIQ can search by address, intersection, place, parcel ID, and coordinates, then show city layers. The county Parcel Viewer links parcel, tax-map, district, hazard, and other data. Use those tools to choose the right records office. Keep ZIP and jurisdiction in separate fields.

ZIP code
A five-digit USPS delivery code, not a city boundary.
ZIP+4
The added four digits that narrow mail delivery to a smaller segment.
PO-box ZIP
A ZIP used for post office box delivery rather than a mapped set of homes.
Unique ZIP
A code assigned to one large organization or delivery recipient. None was established for Bellingham in the research.
Carrier route
A delivery path used by postal carriers. It is not a parcel or neighborhood boundary.

Boundary check. A Bellingham ZIP code is a postal fact. Confirm city jurisdiction in CityIQ or county GIS before choosing a permit or records custodian.

Bellingham ZIP Address Geography

Bellingham's current city grew from Whatcom, Sehome, Bellingham, and Fairhaven, with consolidation in 1903 to 1904. City limits later expanded through many annexations. A historic name or street may therefore appear under an earlier town, even though a present USPS check returns Bellingham. Postal standardization cannot explain that change.

The city recognizes 25 planning neighborhoods, including Fairhaven, Sehome, Lettered Streets, Cordata, Happy Valley, Sunnyland, Whatcom Falls, and Western Washington University. A neighborhood label is useful for map research but is not a historical legal address. The safest record keeps the postal city, ZIP, city-limit finding, neighborhood, parcel situs, and source date as separate values.

This is the ZIP trap highlighted by the research: one neat postal label can hide several jurisdictions and eras. It is why a Bellingham ZIP code directory must remain a crosswalk, not a claim that everyone sharing a code lives within one civic boundary.

Bellingham ZIPs on Property Records

The Whatcom County Real Property Search separates a parcel's location from its owner's mailing address. A tax bill may go to a PO box or another city. The county Address Change form likewise keeps old and new mailing addresses distinct. The mailing ZIP tells where notices go, while the situs address describes the parcel's physical location.

Search the assessor by property, owner, plat, sales, or map tools, then save the 16-digit Geo Parcel or APN. That parcel key is more stable than an address through unit formatting or mailing changes. Follow it into GIS for jurisdiction. If a recorded deed is needed, use the Auditor's Digital Research Room. This avoids treating a taxpayer's postal address as proof of residence.

The official Whatcom property search is shown below.

The interface supports parcel research, but it does not publish a ready-made ZIP code directory of occupants.

Requesting Bellingham ZIP Records

When an online portal lacks the field or file needed, ask for an existing record by type and date. Whatcom County routes Public Records Act requests through its disclosure page. Bellingham uses its own request portal for city departments and generally gives an initial response within five business days. Court files follow court rules instead, not the ordinary city or county disclosure path.

A focused request might ask for a named dataset's documented ZIP field and a date range. Do not ask an office to create a new resident list or perform open-ended research. State the format sought, the office likely to hold it, and whether inspection is acceptable. Save the confirmation because request-system incidents can affect later retrieval.

The Whatcom County disclosure route is shown in the captured image.

The portal is a fallback for a defined record, not a way to demand a newly assembled list of residents by ZIP.

Keep Bellingham ZIP Results Honest

Record the exact source, URL, search date, address spelling, ZIP, and jurisdiction check. Mark whether a result is current, historic, self-service, extract-based, or unofficial. A blank search may reflect limited coverage rather than absence. Repeat older place names where the date calls for them.

Do not merge an owner, tax mail recipient, voter, permit contact, court party, or directory listing into one present resident merely because the ZIP matches. Washington's Address Confidentiality Program also uses substitute addresses for protected participants. Never try to reverse or map a protected address.

Safe use. Use ZIP-level records for lawful personal or civic research. Never use a Bellingham address grouping to stalk, harass, intimidate, or harm anyone.
